R.I.P. Loleatta Holloway – The Best Of Them All

I am so sad and destroyed about the death of Loleatta Holloway. She was, with out a doubt, the most important voice in my life.
Her voice brought me joy when I was alone, her voice made me want to make dance music, her voice connected me with one of my best friends, and her voice was singing in the delivery room at the moment when my daughter was born. When I met her and told her that story, she cried and gave me one of the greatest hugs ever.
How fitting that “Share My Joy” was the record of hers that I got to work on, because joy was all I felt hearing her amazing voice. I will definitely shed many tears for her tonight, and the only thing that will possibly make it better will be listening to her amazing gift that, thankfully, she shared with the world.

Loleatta’s voice was instantly recognized. Truly a gift from God!!! Her voice paved my way into House music. RIP Loleatta.

So well said Chris. I loved her work too and got to meet her over here once when she was here to do a gig with me. She was an immense talent and a lovely lady. I interviewed her for my Radio Wave dance show I used to do in her hotel room and watched her transform from someone that looked like an American tourist into a Diva right before my eyes. She went on stage at the Flamingo later that evening and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. She will be sadly missed.

What a great tribute, Chris. Thanks for sharing. Following her since 1976… the original Salsoul album… and loved hearing what you magicians did with her tracks. Maybe we’ll hear some tributes using “Lifting Me Up” and her version of “Like a Prayer.”
