Three Days in Ventura: Maybe It Was the Roses
Last weekend Lady Sparkles and I made our way out to Ventura for Maybe It Was the Roses, a three-day celebration of the music and culture of the Grateful Dead presented by Golden Voice. California beach weather, wonderful people, and a sound system that was absolutely perfect. The live mixing all weekend was phenomenal.
One of the highlights of the whole weekend was Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country on Saturday night. This was maybe my third or fourth time catching Daniel live, ever since I discovered him out on the road a couple years back. He never disappoints.
His band is SO good. They can rip into pure Nashville honky-tonk shredding, but when Daniel and the band get spacey and cosmic, that’s where the real magic lives for me. Joyous doesn’t even cover it.
Three days well spent.
